Eat Your Heart Out

Red has a fascination with the vulture, a deeply misunderstood and chastised creature. Considered by many to be ugly, filthy and murderous; the vulture is also sacred in the Tibetan funeral ceremony of Jhator (also known as “giving alms to the birds” or sky burial). Through their powerful digestive system, the scavenger bird eats the corpses of the dead and helps to prevent the spread of disease. Grieving families offer the bodies of their deceased to the birds as a last act of generosity. This painting is about love.
